This idea occurred to me a week or so ago while thinking about writing in general. I have a couple of fiction stories buzzing around in my head that I am committing to putting on paper.
But I thought for a brief moment, what about my own fiction story? What about my lore? We all have lore, don’t we?
Every single experience we’ve had is a part of our lore and has contributed to the amazing beings we are today.
And yet, many of us shy away from existing within certain memories, because of the pain they dredge up from the depths of where we’ve suppressed them.
They trigger in us that old familiar physiological fight or flight response to the remembered suffering or fear.
And then comes the shame. Oh, the shame we’ve been taught we should feel about the times others have hurt us. Or about the times we made perfectly human mistakes. Yes, the shame.
Which tells us, ‘stop remembering this. It’s just too hard. Let it stay buried.’
But what if you had full control of the narrative in all the memories of who you are? What if you, dear reader, were holding the pen that wrote the story?
Are you under the impression that you are not holding the pen or at any point have not?
(Here’s a secret: You have always held the pen. Nobody can take that pen away from you)
So, now, if we hold the pen that writes our stories, how different would our stories look through the eyes of the great and observant authors we are? How epic of a journey have we walked? How incredible of a figure are we now, having survived those trials, tribulations, and celebrated our victories?
I’ll be writing a series of posts on my lore, opening up those old wounds here on these lines to rewrite and reframe the life and journey I have walked thus far.
A title?
I’m thinking Serafiend: Origins of a Wicked Witch has a nice ring to it…
You see, its your lore. You can be anyone you want. And the story told is from your point of view. And the more fantastical of a rewrite, the more you get to explore the events from a place of power rather than victimization.
So, even if you do not post your lore anywhere public, will you join me in this exercise of ultimate alchemical magick?
